If you think your child may be drinking or using drugs, the most effective thing to do is to simply ask them.
When parents talk openly about drugs and drinking, children have better self-control and think more clearly about these risky behaviors. If they are using, they are frequently relieved that they are being asked about a subject that is frequently avoided.
Keeping the lines of communication open with your child will make all the difference so:

If you’ve just discovered that your child is drinking or doing drugs, the first thing you need to do is sit down, relax, and take time to breathe.
Take a deep breath, take ten deep breaths, relax, and when you’re ready, start with the first of the steps in the checklist below.
